Frequently Asked Questions
Does cropping reduce file size? ▼
Slightly, as less page area is rendered. For significant size reduction, use Compress PDF after cropping.
Can I crop different amounts on different pages? ▼
Currently, the same crop settings are applied to all pages uniformly.
Will text near the edges be cut off? ▼
If you crop too aggressively, yes. Always preview before downloading.
Crop vs Resize: Technical Difference
Cropping adjusts the PDF page's CropBox — the visible area boundary — without deleting content outside it. Resizing applies an affine transformation that scales all page content to new dimensions. Both use pdf-lib in your browser; neither touches your original file. Use cropping to remove unwanted scanner borders or whitespace. Use resizing to change paper size — for example, converting US Letter to A4 for printing in Europe, or scaling an A3 technical drawing down to A4.
Cropping large white margins can modestly reduce file size. For bigger reductions, follow with Compress PDF. For sensitive documents — medical records, legal filings, architectural drawings — the no-upload approach means your files stay completely private throughout.
